Predictions of Future Education... Spot On

While we don't have the constant face-to-face communication presented in the videos, we do have an inability to come up with reasons why we were unable to do something. We have all these time saving devices! The videos were spot on with the boy's complaint that you can't escape school or responsibility with all of the technology at your fingertips. 

Technology is going to get more and more integrated with our lives. It is surprising how spot on the producers and designers or the movies were about the ability for us to instantly access databases for research. With Air Drop technology we are able to share information we find with others instantly so they can view it while we are viewing it. That is exactly what they were predicting!

Spreadsheets

I reviewed and evaluated the War Lords of Japan spreadsheet for an assignment for EdTech 202. The spreadsheet can be found here.

The spreadsheet seeks to show a relationship between weather and geology and to help solve a word problem.

I found the spreadsheet far too complicated for even me to easily understand, so I don't believe 5th graders would be able to digest it. It lacks clear descriptions and direction. The pointy charts that are used instead of bar charts also are poorly chosen. It is very difficult to understand the relationship the numbers above it have to the actual "bar graph." I would change this to a typical bar graph that has lines for the children to follow across.

I would also ask at least one of two questions that would help the students apply what was covered in the spreadsheet. For example, I would ask on the spreadsheet, "What disaster occurred most often?" This would help prove they were able to understand the graph.

Nicholas' daughter is the cutest and happiest baby in the world, not to mention the most well behaved kid on this planet... She does has a little spice to her, though. He is working on taming her down.

Flip-flops make Nicholas happy… he is not really into shoes with laces, and only has one pair of shoes for when it is cold… they are a pair of Converse. His feet feel too cramped in shoes with laces.

He loves to eat! He loves to eat ice cream, tuna fish sandwiches, pizza, chicken, rice, sub-sandwiches, fatty yogurt, stir-fry, hamburgers (once in a while), grilled cheese sandwiches (he makes the best), cheese sticks, Doritos, Nachos (with white corn chips), chicken nuggets (bakes ones), oranges, grapes, guava juice, carrots, salad stuff, uncooked celery, pot pies, babies (jk), animal crackers, Ritz crackers, Oreos, flavored milk, and bacon… Nicholas really likes bacon.

Nicholas is dedicated to his family and his friends. He feels that one of his main traits is his dedication. He never leaves anyone behind and he has a past of helping people through the hardest of times. While Nicholas is very energetic and loves active things he is a movie junky.

One of his favorite activities is ballroom dancing. People all over the world (well, not quite… but, Nicholas likes to think that is the case) have noticed Nicholas is a fantastic ballroom dancer. The people up in Canada thought this too. They were like, “Wow”. and he was like, “Yep, you know it."

Nerf guns are a way to just release the inner child in him. So are: yo-yos, butterfly sticks, Monk (the TV show), Mega Blocks, anything that makes fart noises, action figures (Nicholas only has two though, they guard the pantry; one is named Helio and the other Chuck), computers, crafts, balloons, and his iPhone 5.

Yes, it is true. Nicholas is a quite diverse individual but he is down to earth and laid back.
